Local Area

Harbour View is located in the Newquay town centre and approximately 2 minutes walk to the harbour and Towan beach, making this a great location for families and couples a like. The harbour beach is great for families as it is just a cove for bathing where you can if you are lucky take in the spectales of the local seals. Towan is a family friendly beach too that allows body boarding in the main season, but when the tide is out you can walk the stretch of the coast right up to Lusty Glaze Beach (please check the tide times before doing so).

Porth beach is approximately 2 miles out of Newquay town centre, which makes it easy to access all the amenities and attractions in the town either by foot, bus or car. Porth beach is great for families as it allows no surfing during the main season, but don't let this put you off if you do surf as Whipsiderry (good surf spot) is just a walk way up the hill and then further on is Watergate Bay with its extreme sports, including kit surfing. Waterage Bay has become famous for being the Cornish home to Jamie Oliver's inspired 'Fifteen' restaurant, try to book in advance if you can. Approximately 15 miles from Padstow with its quaint fishing harbour and 'Rick Stein's' seafood restaurant where booking is a must especially during peak season.

Newquay to the modern day tourist is a truly inspiring Cornish town that in the past has built a reputation as the Countries premiere surfing capital and for very good reason with the rugged coastline enjoying the full brunt of Atlantic storms.

Of course today Newquay has somewhat transformed itself to become a more dynamic town still offering the perfect bucket and spade holiday but with a vast improvement of superb holiday accommodation matched equally with bigger and better attractions that cater for families even when the weather is not on our side!

Newquay town still retains a strong natural character with great shops to browse for Cornish goodies and a fantastic working harbor delivering fresh fish to the many superb restaurants. Indeed the culinary status of Cornwall has vastly improved with the introduction of famous chef’s opening their eateries along her coastline, Rick Stein & Jamie Oliver’s restaurants are only a short drive from Newquay town.

Today we see people from all walks of life visit, from serious ramblers to wildlife enthusiasts to families looking to enjoy the rolling countryside and the very finest beaches. Accommodation Reviews

Fistral Court is a totally different property and we were a little cautious when we booked mainly due to not having any garden/land.  However, once again the website was up-to-date and very informative.  The apartment is maintained to a high standard and perfect location for surfing/walking.  The swimming pool was a real plus, very warm (even in May) and as most properties are privately owned our children normally had this all to themselves.  There are two beaches within 5 minutes walking distance and plenty to keep you occupied in the area.  Newquay Zoo is definitely worth a visit.

We have booked Fistral Court once again next year as this is a great apartment, fantastic views and location and brilliant surfing.  On a sunny day there is nothing better than sitting on the decking with a glass of wine watching the sun go down!  – Rating 5

Caroline has always been extremely accommodating, allowing us to arrive early when possible, knowing we have travelled a long distance and is always contactable.  We would recommend her properties without hesitation.

Deanna, May 2009

Fistral Court is the ideal spot to spend a week in Newquay - it is a short distance from the centre of Newquay making it quiet, but close enough to make all the amenities Newquay has to offer within easy reach. It is ideally placed for spending time on Fistral Beach, and also very close to the quieter more family orientated Crantock Beach. The apartment is lovely and airy with a large lounge/dining area, a modern and very well equipped kitchen and two bedrooms with ample storage. The icing on the cake is the apartment's outdoor space - it has a large decked area with table, chairs and barbeque, also there is a heated outdoor swimming pool for the communal use of the Fistral Court apartments. We had a wonderful week at Fistral Court in July and are returning in 2010 because it was everything we needed in a holiday apartment

Rachel, July 2009

It is close to Fistral Beach, well kept and maintained, good facilities plus pool area
Caroline allows dogs in the apartment which is great from our point of view as we have two Boxers and there aren’t many places within Cornwall that allow you to take two dogs without having to pay an additional premium.

We are definitely planning on using Fistral Court again.

Dave, September 2009

« Description | Location »

Location

Just west of Newquay, Cubert is an inland village and nearby is the holiday resort of Holywell bay.  Half way between the village and the coast, is the medieval Holy Well dedicated to St Cubert and from which the coastal bay takes its name.  At the north end of the beach, only accessible two hours before and after low-tide, is a natural well in the rock that 19th Century romanticists like to think was the origin of the name Holywell.

« Outside | Local Area »

Local Area

The village of Cubert is well located with easy access to the beaches of Holywell Bay, Polly Joke, Crantock and which are all within walking distance.  If offers two general stores, two good restaurants and a gift shop.  Locally, houses sell seasonal produce including vegetables, fruit and duck eggs.

Locally there are three pubs, the closest being the Smugglers Den Inn, a delightful 16th century thatched Inn which is just a short walk across the fields.

Newquay is just four miles away and easy accessed via car or bus (in the Summer the busses run every 15mins into Newquay)

Crantock has a vast sandy beach and is similar to Holywell with the dunes, rock pools and caves and Polly Joke is a very pretty family beach.  Polly Joke and Crantock Bay can also be accessed from the car park at West Pentire.

"The Pottery is a delightful annex at the rear of the owners property.  We stayed there for 5 months with our 1 year old son and our dog whilst securing a long term rental property and loved every minute.  Our son especially loved the fact that he could go out the front door, straight onto the decking and lawn whenever he wanted and we need not panic as it is secure and kenw he couldnt get out.

The owners, Alison and Chris are a mindful of information and nothing is too much trouble.  The pubs locally are all suitable for families and pets seem to be welcome everywhere, even in the coffee shop in Perranporth!!!

Perranporth was our favourite beach as it was easily accessible with the pushchair and dogs are welcome, that said, dogs are welcome on most of the beachs on the North coast, if in doubt, check with Alison and Chris and they will be able to advise.

The Pottery is like a home from home, with all mod cons and infact it became out home from March through to July.  I have been on self catering holidays inCornwall before and none of them have been nearly as well equiped.

I would hightly recommend The Pottery to all my family and friends and would definately return again, if Alison and Chris would have us back??"

Surrounding the property are a number of trees, one apple treet and some evergreens. There are a number of herb plants to season your cooking! Nearby the quarry supports a good fresh water fishing mark. Walks are abundant, just depends on how far you want to go...bring your wellies!

Location

Situated at the end of 3/4 mile lane in Paul near the famous fishing village of Mousehole.

« Outside | Local Area »

Local Area

Paul village, original name ‘Brewinney' and its church have a long association with Mousehole. Paul was one of the communities along with Mousehole, Newlyn and Penzance to be destroyed in the Spanish raid of 1595.

Mousehole (1 mile) is one of the most beautiful coastal villages in Britain and it is the classic image of a Cornish fishing village of bygone days. The village, whose name is pronounced "Mowzel", is centred on an almost circular harbour which is particularly beautiful at Christmas when Mousehole attracts visitors for the Christmas lights.

In winter, the harbour entrance is closed by sturdy wooden beams to keep the force of the sea at bay and to protect the village. In past times, the villagers have suffered the effects of winter storms on their harbour and one of these events is commemorated annually shortly before Christmas on "Tom Bawcock's Eve".

Just offshore outside the harbour is St Clement's Isle - a small rocky islet where once an ancient hermit was said to live. A few hundred yards along the coast from the village lies a huge cave which - so some people say - gives rise to the name of the village (Mouse Hole).

Land's End is the most westerly point of England and is approximately 7 miles west of Mousehole. On a clear day, the Isles of Scilly can be seen just on the horizon. Longships lighthouse is a little over a mile out to seen and six miles to the south-west is Wolf Rock Lighthouse. There is also a bar and restaurant at the site.

Minack Theatre - The remarkable Minack Theatre was constructed in the 1930's as a hobby of the late Miss Rowena Cade in the style of a Roman open air amphitheatre, cut into the edge of the granite rocks. Entertainment is held every May-September with a wide range of productions from Shakespeare to musicals. Book tickets in advance during peak season.

St. Michael's Mount is located about 7 miles east of Mousehole, a few hundred yards out to sea from the town of Marazion and is one of Cornwall's best attractions. The castle is now maintained by the National Trust. The island and castle are open to the public every weekday and most weekends in the summer and on a limited basis during the winter.

Surfing - 7 miles west of Mousehole is the town Sennen Cove and Gwenver. This has a reputation for being one of the most consistently good surfing beaches in England.

Golf - There are a number of golf courses in west Cornwall, many with outstanding coastal and rural views.

South West Coastal Path - One of Britain's National Trails passes through Mousehole.

Porthcurno Telegraph Museum - In this award-winning museum visitors can see the extensive collection of working equipment and learn about the secret communications that were sent from here in World War II.

Geevor Tin Mine - Discover the history of mining in Cornwall in both underground and overground tours.

Cornish Celtic Tours - Enjoy a different and relaxed tour of Cornwall's scenic history from the comfort of a luxurious coach with a personal guide to ensure an informed and professional service.

Trinity House National Lighthouse Centre - This interesting museum in Penzance has one of the finest collections of lighthouse equipment in the world.
Restaurants & Pubs...

The Ship Inn, Mousehole - the nearest pub to The Net Loft, located about 50 metres away by the harbourside. Despite the years has not lost its old traditions and remains at the heart of the very friendly local community.

The Old Coastguard, Mousehole - bar and award winning restaurant located in sub-tropical gardens leading to the sea with relaxed ambience and fantastic sea views.

The Cornish Range, Mousehole - great seafood restaurant in the centre of Mousehole. A very good choice for lunch or dinner.

2 Fore Street, Mousehole- a new bistro in Mousehole that's style is proving very popular. An affordable menu that reflects the catch and the season.

Kings Arms, Paul - has been at the hub of village life for hundreds of years and being adjacent to the Church and Village Hall is very much part of village life. Dogs are welcome.

Fishermans Arms, Newlyn - an old style pub that serves home made food. Log fires in the evenings (or very cold mornings). Ceiling festooned with artefacts from round the world. A view over the busy fishing port, Mounts bay and St Michael's Mount.

Lamorna Wink, Lamorna - a 2 miles walk away along the South West Coastal path, so work up a thirst and enjoy the views on the way therer!
